Author Neale Donald Walsch reminds us that “life begins at the end of your comfort zone.” Therapy is a place to develop a strong supportive relationship so you feel able to venture out of your comfort zone and into the realm of what could be. Summit County Therapy provides individual therapy for most stressful life situations, mental health issues and interpersonal problems.
Traumatic EventsLiving through something traumatic can make a person feel as though they've lost themselves and aren't the person they want to be. Traumatic events can include "big T traumas" such as natural disasters, combat and abuse, but it can also include "little t traumas," such as losing a job, going through a divorce, or getting bullied.
At Summit County Therapy we use trauma-informed techniques in all of our work, as "little t" traumas are common. We also work to address problems that come alongside trauma, including negative core beliefs, or thoughts like "I'm not good enough," or "I'm broken." Techniques, such as Eye Movement Desensitization and Re-Processing (EMDR) and Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT) can help to heal unseen injuries and fears. Anxiety and PhobiasAnxiety and Phobias can show up in ways that feel debilitating, in ways that we function through, and all types of presentations in between. Feeling extremely stressed and living with panic attacks are all different forms of anxiety. Even though we may logically "know" how to solve problems, our bodies and brains often can get stuck with these feelings.
Anxiety can show up as primarily thought based with ruminations and fixation on problems, and it can show up as primarily body based with tension, shallow breathing, jaw clenching and other symptoms. Some times people dealing with anxiety can struggle to relax or to go to sleep at night. We can use body and brain based techniques to help you relate to the anxiety differently, learn to step away from it and find ease.
Phobias can make a person feel out of control and powerless, but there is help available. Using EMDR can help you move through the phobias and take control over your life again!

Relationship ProblemsAre you feeling disconnected and finding that your disagreements repeat themselves over and over again? Break out of your relationship patterns and learn new ways to connect and get past seemingly insurmountable issues.
When we have trouble in relationships it is often due to a failure to communicate our true intentions. Oftentimes we and our partners fall into automatic patterns of assuming what the other person means, and we miss what they are actually saying. Help yourself break out of this cycle that you know so well. Emotion focused therapy can help you understand each other better, and get to the real issues in the relationship. Drawing from Gottman's therapy models and Dialectical Behavior Therapy we can help you learn to feel closer and understood by your partner. |
